When a benefice becomes vacant, the senior Proctor declares the vacancy, and a candidate is chosen by the Senate. In regard to the vicarage of Burwell, the University, within four months after a vacancy, names two candidates, and the earl of Guilford presents one of them to the Bishop of Norwich.

TRIPOSES,

OR,

Lists of those who have obtained Honors on commencing Bachelors of Arts; with the names of the Moderators of the respective years.

On the Tripos papers originally published, the names of the Honors, till the year 1755, seldom appeared; and in the Registrary's book, where all degrees, in the order of seniority, are inserted, no mark of distinction was ever observed, previous to that time, between the Wranglers and Senior Optimes.-As it was formerly the custom for the Vice-Chancellor and Proctors to confer Honorary Senior Optimes, a mark of distinction not then unfrequently conferred upon Wranglers, the regular order of previous years cannot he precisely ascertained, especially as these Honorary degrees were placed ad libitum. The years 1752 and 1753 are copies from the Registrary's book of Entry. The year 1754 was arranged according to the wrangling paper. The custom of conferring Honorary Senior Optimes has of late years been abolished.

The Chancellor's Medals were first instituted in 1752; (4) denotes senior, (B) junior.

Dr. Smith's Mathematical Prizes were founded in 1769; (1) denotes senior, (2) junior.

The designates late or present Fellows.
