20 Deut. xxix. 29. Secret Things belong unto the Lord our GoD, but thofe Things that are revealed belong unto us, and to our Children for ever. 1 Pet. ii, 6. Wherefore it is contained in Scripture (I. xxviii. 16.) Behold, I lay in Zion a chief Corner-ftone, elect, precious: And he that believeth on Him fhall not be confounded. John iii. 16. GOD fo loved the World, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whofoever believeth in Him, fhould not perifh, but have everlasting Life. Mark xvi. 16. He that believeth, and is baptized, fhall be faved. Rev. xxii. 17. The Spirit and the Bride fay, Come And let him that heareth, fay, Come: And whofoever will, let him take the Water of Life freely. Matt. xi. 28. Come unto me all ye that labour, and are heaven laden, and I will give you Reft. I. lv. 1. Ho, every one that thirfteth, come ye to the Waters, and he that hath no Money, come ye, buy and eat, yea come, buy Wine and Milk, without Money and without Price. Ver. 2. Wherefore do ye fpend your Money for that which is not Bread, and your Labour for that which fatisfieth not? Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is Good, and let your Soul delight itself in Fatnefs. Ver. 3. Incline your Ear unto me, hear, and your Soul fhall live, and I will make an everlasting Covenant with you, even the fure Mercies of David. Ver. 6. Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near. Ver. 7. Let the Wicked forfake his Way, and the unrighteous Man his Thoughts: And let him return unto the Lord, and he will have Mercy upon him, and to our GOD, for he will abundantly pardon.

21 Mic. vi. 8. He hath fhewed thee, O Man, what is Good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love Mercy, and to walk humbly with thy GOD.

ARTICLE XVIII.

Of obtaining eternal Salvation only by the Name of Chrift.

HEY also are to be be had accurfed, that prefume to fay, that every Man fhall be faved by the Law or Sect which he profeffeth, fo that he be diligent to frame his Life according to that Law, and the Light of Nature. For holy Scripture doth fet out unto us only the Name of Jefus Chrift, whereby Men must be saved.

As the Church of Hierufalem, Alexandria, and Antioch, have erred, fo alfo the Church of Rome hath erred, not only in their Living and Manner of Ceremonies, but also in Matters of Faith.

Wherefore, although the Church be a Witness and a Keeper of Holy Writ, yet as it ought not to decree any Thing against the fame, fo befides the fame ought it not to enforce any Thing to be believed for Neceffity to Salvation.

DE Purgatory.

THE Romish Doctrine concerning 'Purgatory, Pardons, 3 Worfhipping, and Adoration, as well of Images, as of Reliques, and the Invocation of 5 Saints, is a fond Thing, vainly invented, and grounded upon no Warranty of Scripture, but rather repugnant to the Word of GOD.

Luke xxiii. 42. He faid unto Jefus, Lord, remember me when thou comeft into thy Kingdom. Ver. 43. And Jefus faid unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To-day fhalt thou be with me in Paradise. Heb. x. 14. By one Offering he hath perfected for ever them that are fanctified. 1 John i. 7. The Blood of Jefus Chrift cleanfeth from all Sin. Rev. xiv. 13. Bleffed are the Dead which die in the Lord, from henceforth: Yea, faith the Spirit, that they may reft from their Labours; and their Works do follow them.
