5. But see the wonders of his power,

[graphic]
[ocr errors]

Hymn 44. s. M.

1.

2. Jesus the Saviour reigns,

Let earth adore its Lord;
Bright cherubs his attendants stand,
And swift fulfil his word.

3. In Zion is his throne;

His honours are divine;

His church shall make his wonders knowny
For there his glories shine.

4. How holy is his name!

How terrible his praise!

Justice and truth and judgment join,
In all his works of grace.

[blocks in formation]

The glory of Christ, and power of his gospel.
OW be my heart inspir'd to sing
The glories of my Saviour King,

N

Jesus the Lord; how heavenly fair
His form! how bright his beauties are!

2. O'er all the sons of human race,
He shines with a superior grace,
Love from his lips divinely flows,
And blessings all his state compose.
3. Dress thee in arms, most mighty Lord!
Gird on the terror of thy sword,
In majesty and glory ride

With truth and meekness at thy side.

4. Thine anger, like a pointed dart,
Shall pierce the foes of stubborn heart;
Or words of mercy kind and sweet
Shall melt the rebels at thy feet.
5. Thy throne, O God, forever stands;
Grace is the sceptre in thy hands;
Thy laws and works are just and right;
Justice and grace are thy delight.

Hymn 46. P. M.

OIN all the glorious names
Of wisdom, love, and pow'r,
That ever mortals knew,
That angels ever bore;
All are too mean
To speak his worth,
Too mean to set
My Saviour forth.

2. But O what gentle terms,
What condescending ways
Doth our Redeemer use,
To teach his heav'nly grace!
Mine eyes with joy
And wonder see
What forms of love
He bears for me.

3. Array'd in mortal flesh,
He like an angel stands,
And holds the promises,
And pardons in his hands:
Commission'd from
His Father's throne,
To make his grace
To mortals known.

4. Great Prophet of my God,

My tongue would bless thy name;
By thee the joyful news

1.

3. THE PASSION OF CHRIST.
Hymn 47. с. м.

EHOLD the Saviour of mankind
Nail'd to the shameful tree;

How vast the love that him inclin'd
To bleed and die for thee!

2. Hark, how he groans! while nature shakes,
And earth's strong pillars bend!
The temple's veil in sunder breaks,
The solid marbles rend.

3. 'Tis done! the precious ransom's paid,
"Receive my soul!" he cries;
See, where he bows his sacred head!
He bows his head, and dies!

4. But soon he'll break death's envious chain,

1.

And in full glory shine;

O Lamb of God! was ever pain,
Was ever love like thine!

Hymn 48. Р. М.
[From the German.]
Love divine! what hast thou done!
Jesus my Lord hath dy'd for me!

The Father's co-eternal Son,

Bore all my sins upon the tree;
Th' atoning Lamb for me hath dy'd;
My Lord my Love, is crucify'd.
2. Behold him, all ye that pass by,

1

The bleeding Prince of life and peace!
Come see, ye worms, your Saviour die,
And say, was ever grief like his!
Come feel, with me, his blood apply'd;
My Lord, my Love, is crucify'd:

3. Is crucify'd for me and you,

To bring us rebels back to God:
