FROM the very face of this publication it is manifeftly no part of its defign to fuperfede any of Dr. WATTS's Pfalms and Hymns, now fo much in ufe, and fo generally and justly admired. That excellent man, however, had more humility and piety than would fuffer him to imagine that the gift of edifying the churches by facred poetry was confined to himself; no, he was not, in this refpect, disposed to Lord "it over God's heritage, but to be a helper of "their joy."
