Thy years, O God, can never fail, Thy goodness is unchangeable!
3 O that our faith may never move, But stand unshaken as thy love, Sure evidence of things unseen; Now let it pass the years between, And view thee bleeding on the tree, My God, who dies for me, for me!
If David call him Lord, how is he his Son?
1 HOSANNA to the Royal Son Of David's ancient line!
His nature's two, his person one, Mysterious and divine!
2 The root of David here we find, And offspring is the same ; Eternity and time are join'd In our Immanuel's name!
3 Hail him! the heir of David's throne, Whom David Lord did call; Let Jew and Gentile, join'd in one, Now own him Lord of all.
4 Bless'd He that comes to wretched men, With peaceful news from heaven; Hosannas of the highest strain, To Christ the Lord be given !
5 Let mortals ne'er refuse to take
Th' hosannas on their tongues, Lest rocks and stones should rise, and break Their silence into songs.
Kiss the Son lest he be angry.
1 JEHOVAH speaks, let Israel hear, Let all the earth rejoice and fear, While God's eternal Son proclaims His sovereign honours, and his names :
2 I am the last, and I the first, The Saviour God, and God the just; There's none beside pretends to shew Such justice and salvation too!
3 Ye that in shades of darkness dwell, Just on the verge of death and hell; Look up to me from distant lands, Light, life, and heaven, are in my hands.
4 I, by my holy name have sworn, Nor shall the word in vain return; To me shall all things bend the knee, And every tongue shall swear to me!
5 In me alone, shall men confess, Lies all their strength and righteousness; But such as dare despise my name, I'll clothe them with eternal shame!
6 In me, the Lord, shall all the seed Of Israel from their sins be freed; And by their shining graces prove Their interest in my pard'ning love.
Mercy despised calls for the heavier vengeance. What wrath is like the wrath of the Lamb?
1 NOT to condemn the sons of men, Did Christ, the Son of God, appear; No weapons in his hands are seen, No flaming sword, nor thunder there!
2 Such was the pity of our God, He loved the race of man so well, He sent his Son to bear our load Of sins, and save our souls from hell!
3 Sinners, believe the Saviour's word, Trust in his mighty name and live; A thousand joys his lips afford, His hands thousand ble
4 But vengeance and destruction lies
On rebels who refuse the grace, Who God's eternal Son despise,
The deepest hell must be their place!
1 HE reigns! the Lord the Saviour reigns! Praise him in evangelic strains, Let the whole earth in songs rejoice, And distant islands join their voice. 2 Deep are his counsels, and unknown, But grace and truth support his throne; Though gloomy clouds his way surround, Justice is their eternal ground.
3 In robes of judgment, lo! he comes, Shakes the wide earth, and cleaves the tombs! Before him burns devouring fire! The mountains melt, the seas retire!
4 His enemies, with sore dismay, Fly from the sight, and shun the day; Then lift your heads, ye saints, on high, And sing, for your redemption's nigh.
255. The goodness of God in Spiritual mercies.
1 FROM Calvary flows a fountain cool, Of water and of blood!
More healing than Bethesda's pool, Or famed Siloam's flood.
2 The dying thief rejoiced to see That fountain in his day, And there may sinners, vile as he, Wash all their guilt away.
3 Ne'er shall that fountain's sacred stream, Lose its all-cleansing power; Till the whole ransom'd Church of God Be saved to sin no more.
4 Kind Lord! the virtue of thy blood To all our souls apply; Grant that to thee we henceforth live, Grant that to sin we die :-
5 Till spotless, placed at thy right hand, Safe in the realms above; We cast our crowns before thy throne, And sing thy boundless love.
1 A FOUNTAIN of life and of grace,
In Christ our Redeemer we see,
For us, who his offers embrace, and W
For all it is open and free.
2 Jehovah himself doth invite, To drink of his pleasures unknown; The streams of immortal delight, That flow from his heavenly throne...
3 As soon as in him we believe, By faith of his Spirit we take, And freely forgiven, receive The mercy for Jesus's sake. 4 We gain a pure drop of his love, The life of eternity know; Angelical happiness prove, And witness a heaven below.
257. The suitableness of the Gospel to man's necessities.
1 LET everlasting glories crown
Thy head, my Saviour, and my Lord; Thy hands have brought salvation down, And writ the blessings in thy word.
2 What, if we trace the globe around, And search from Britain to Japan; There shall be no religion found, So just to God, so safe for man.
3 In vain the trembling conscience seeks Some solid ground to rest upon; With long despair, the spirit breaks, 'Till we apply to Christ alone.
4 How well thy blessed truths agree, How wise and holy thy commands; Thy promises, how firm they be; How firm our hope and comfort stands.
5 Should all the schemes that men devise, Assault my faith with treach'rous art; I'd call them vanity and lies, And bind the Gospel to my heart.
1 FROM the cross, uplifted high, Where the Saviour deigns to die, What melodious sounds we hear, Bursting on the ravish'd ear! Love's redeeming work is done, Come, and welcome, sinner, come!
2 Sprinkled now with blood the throne, Why beneath thy burdens groan ? On my pierced body laid, Justice owns the ransom paid; Bow the knee, and kiss the Son, Come, and welcome, sinner, come!
3 Spread for thee the festal board, See with richest dainties stored; To thy Father's bosom prest, Yet, again, a child confest; Never from his house to roam, Come, and welcome, sinner, come!
4 Soon the days of life shall end, Lo! I come, your Saviour, friend, Safe your spirits to convey, To the realms of endless day : Fly to my eternal home,
Come, and welcome, sinner, come!
The effects of the Propitiation.
1 YE dying sons of men,
Deep sunk in sin and woe; Mercy now calls again, Its message is to you; Ye perishing and guilty come, In mercy's arms there yet is room.
2 No longer now delay,
Nor vain excuses frame, Christ bids you come to-day, Though poor and blind and lame: All things are ready, sinners come, For every trembling soul there's room.
